Kodiaks women’s soccer signs resourceful Lethbridge midfielder
Kodiaks women’s soccer team have acquired a talented technical athlete in Aleks Bower.
Aug. 30, 2023 - The Lethbridge College Kodiaks women’s soccer team have acquired a talented technical athlete in Aleks Bower, a Catholic Central High School grad who played for the Lethbridge Football Club (LFC).
“She's got technical ability that is on another level,” says Sean Carey, head coach of the Kodiaks women’s soccer team. “She moved here from B.C. when she was younger, and I remember when I first saw her, I was coaching the youth program and she was one of the best players at the tryout.”
Bower, who will enrol in Correctional Studies while at the college, moved to Lethbridge from British Columbia six years ago. While playing for LFC, Carey says she was molded into a versatile player who will slot in the midfield position at the college nicely, adding depth and strength to the roster.
Carey’s influence as a coach and leader guided Bower towards signing with the Kodiaks. “Sean coached me in the past and he's a great coach,” says Bower. “I wanted to be a part of a team again and have that experience.”
As she thinks about the season ahead, Bower expects herself to be a leader on the team, focusing on communication on and off the field.
“I'll be a good leader,” says Bower. “I’m vocal and I’ll push the girls on the field. I enjoy bonding with all the girls and making memories with teammates and classmates. Being a college athlete is going to be one of the best experiences in my life.”
The Kodiaks women’s soccer season kicks off at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at home against Red Deer Polytechnic. Learn more about the team and the season ahead at https://gokodiaks.ca/sports/wsoc/2023-24/schedule.
