Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference
The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) started in 1964 as the Western Inter-College Conference (WICC). Lethbridge College, known then as Lethbridge Junior College, was among the first five founding members of the organization, which regulated, coordinated and promoted both athletics and fine arts.
Unfortunately, the WICC failed to generate a significant level of sustained interest. Only one athletic activity was granted the status of official activity – men’s basketball – while fine arts competitions were held in public speaking, debating and dramatic arts.
Reorganizing with a single focal point – athletics – seems to have been the key to success for the ACAC. Incorporated in July 1981 as the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference, the list of sanctioned activities has expanded from men’s basketball to now include:
- women’s basketball
- badminton
- cross country running
- curling
- futsal
- golf
- hockey
- indoor track
- soccer
- volleyball
The Kodiaks currently compete in men’s and women’s basketball, futsal, soccer and volleyball, as well as cross country running and indoor track.
