This is where the Kodiaks play. We are exceptionally proud of our athletic facilities, which rank among the best in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC). It includes the Val Matteotti Gymnasium, which boasts three full-size courts and seating for up to 2,000 people.
Val Matteotti Gymnasium
Home court for the Kodiaks, the Val Matteotti Gymnasium is certainly a point of pride for Kodiaks Athletics and Lethbridge College. Highly regarded as one of the best gyms – if not the best – in the ACAC, the Val Matteotti Gymnasium:
- is comprised of three full-size gymnasiums
- measures 2,200 square metres
- is capable of seating 2,000
- houses three basketball courts, four volleyball courts and 10 badminton courts
Built in 1988, the gym is named for the local legend whose generous financial contribution was pivotal to the gym’s completion. Valerio Matteotti, better known as Val, had an unparalleled commitment to the Lethbridge community and southern Alberta. And his handprint remains in the college’s infrastructure – the Val Matteotti Gym being just one of the buildings on campus that directly benefitted from his spirit of giving.
A true philanthropist in every sense of the word, Val gave because he could, because he wanted his community to be better, and because it simply felt good. He liked investing in the future – the future of his community, the future of southern Alberta and the future generation.
Val’s morals of generosity, hard work and integrity live on in each Kodiak who calls the Val Matteotti Gymnasium home.
Recently, the gym has played host to the 2020 ACAC Men's Volleyball Championships, with our Kodiaks taking home the Silver.
Soccer Fields - Servus Centre Outdoor Field
The relentless stamina of our men’s and women’s soccer teams is developed on our on-campus training field, and then executed on the competition field across the street. Kodiaks home games are played at the Servus Soccer Centre Outdoor Field, which features a large grass berm that offers fantastic sightlines for spectators. Find directions here.
Weight Room
Our Kodiaks show their commitment to training in the weight room. This 370 square-metre fitness facility is operated by professional staff who support the physical development of our student-athletes through fitness testing and personalized sport-specific programming. The fitness centre comes complete with premiere fitness equipment and multiple squat racks.
Running Trails
There is plenty of space for our cross country team to run wild – they simply head out the back door to access a tremendous variety of running trails. Our famous coulee backdrop provides challenging terrain for even the most advanced runners, and is the perfect training ground for our student-athletes.
Indoor Track
When ACAC Indoor Track events come to Lethbridge, they are held at the 1st Choice Savings Centre for Sport & Wellness, located on the campus of the University of Lethbridge. Find directions here.
Athletic Therapy
The athletic network of Rebound Health Services help the Kodiaks be game ready.
Rebound Health Centre is Southern Alberta’s premier multi-disciplinary centre for all sports-related issues and general sprains/strains. With an office located within the Lethbridge College Fitness Centre, our Kodiaks student athletes have terrific access to Rebound's premiere athletic therapy services, helping keep them at peak performance level throughout the season.
