SOC | Kodiaks recruit brother, sister tandem
There’s a new sibling rivalry coming to the Kodiaks soccer pitch, as head coach Sean Carey has announced the commitments of Keegan and Kylie Bolton.
Sept. 4, 2020 – There’s a new sibling rivalry coming to the Kodiaks soccer pitch. Lethbridge College Kodiaks soccer head coach Sean Carey had the rare privilege of recruiting a dynamic sibling duo to his program, announcing the commitments of Keegan and Kylie Bolton from Sherwood Park, Alta.
Although the pair come from the same family, each will bring different skillsets to their respective teams. Keegan is a centre-back who will strive to provide quickness and versatility to the men’s roster. Kylie, meanwhile, is a keeper known for her distribution and will look to bring a strong boot and big saves to the women’s side.
Carey says it’s an exciting and unique chance to add a pair of impactful student-athletes.
“It’s really exciting that we’re attracting quality athletes and students with experience from around the province to help us build to our goals and what we’re trying to achieve here in Lethbridge,” says Carey.
As for the sibling rivalry, Carey expects them to push each other on-and-off the pitch.
“Having a sibling rivalry will be awesome. The place the teams are at now will make for some great times ahead with each of them trying to one up each other and take their programs to nationals annually.”
Meet the Boltons
Both siblings join the Kodiaks already possessing post-secondary soccer experience. Keegan played last season with the Olds College Broncos, while Kylie is transferring after two years of playing for the University of Regina.
Kylie thrives on her aggressiveness – and has no shortage of confidence.
“I’ve definitely been noticed for my distribution. I’m pretty sure having a 60-yard boot isn’t a bad thing,” she laughs. “I’m explosive and have the mindset that nothing’s getting by me.”
Keegan, meanwhile, describes his game as quick and versatile, saying he “loves to create plays and run down the wing.”
What made them choose Lethbridge College? When asked, both noted the reputation of the Kodiaks athletic program and the soccer teams.
“I’ve heard great things about Lethbridge College, and after my first year [of college] I actually regretted not going to Lethbridge,” says Keegan. “Now to actually be a part of the Kodiaks and having heard so much good stuff about Sean and the team culture, I’m just looking forward to the atmosphere.”
His sister echoed those thoughts.
“I’ve heard great things about the coaching staff and the girls” says Kylie. “I’ve heard they’re a lot of fun, and there’s a lot of commitment and good teamwork.”
So now for the big question. How do they really feel about playing alongside their sibling? Both had slightly different thoughts.
“It’s probably the biggest accomplishment of my career,” says Keegan. “It’ll be a big rivalry.”
For Kylie?
“It’s definitely going to be a long three years” laughs the keeper. “But we’ll make it work. I’m excited for next season.”
The ACAC fall soccer season has been postponed. Updates regarding the season will be posted to the Kodiaks website as they become available.
