Medicine Hat product Fowlie commits to Kodiaks WVB
Head coach Anna Schwark has introduced Shane Fowlie as her latest recruit.
June 11, 2020 – Kodiaks women’s volleyball head coach Anna Schwark has looked east on Highway 3 to uncover her latest recruit
Schwark is proud to announce Medicine Hat’s Shane Fowlie has committed to join the Kodiaks in 2020-21. Fowlie joins the Kodiaks after completing her high school career with Monsignor McCoy High School.
“We have been watching Shane since our high school tournament last year,” says Schwark. “She really caught my eye at the tournament because of her presence on the court. She is very athletic and very strong so we knew she would be able to keep up with the pace of our play.”
In addition to her talent on the court, Fowlie’s work ethic and coachability left an impression on her new coach.
“After training with Shane and getting to know her, it was apparent she is a hard worker in the gym with a great attitude,” says Schwark. “I think she clicked with the girls really well.”
Fowlie is a two-time South East Zone Volleyball League (SEZVL) all-star and helped Monsignor McCoy claim the 2019 SEZVL championship. She’s also experienced success at the club level. Her South East Alberta Volleyball Club (SEAVC) Broncos U17 squad captured silver at provincials last year. She was also named to the Volleyball Alberta U17 Division II all-star team.
While the global pandemic has placed uncertainty around next season, Fowlie says she can’t wait to get back on the court with her new teammates.
“From the first time I practiced with the Kodiaks I felt welcomed by the team and enjoyed working with the coaches,” says Fowlie. “I am very excited to be a part of this team. I have been looking forward to a higher level of competition and I can’t wait to take my volleyball career to the next level by becoming a Kodiak. Being able to join a team with such awesome girls and coaches makes this opportunity very special.”
Fowlie will begin her pursuit of an education degree when classes begin this fall.
