Kodiaks release 2019 soccer schedule
July 15, 2019 – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) has officially unveiled their 2019 conference soccer schedule and Kodiaks fans will notice a significant change from last season.
With the Portage College Voyaguers joining the conference in 2019, a divisional realignment became necessary. The Kodiaks former south division foes Lakeland College Rustlers will now play in the north division, while the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings (Camrose) will move to the south.
The north and south divisions are now completely balanced, with each featuring seven teams playing a twelve game conference schedule.
Both Kodiaks men’s and women’s teams enter the new campaign with championship aspirations after coming off appearances in the ACAC bronze medal game last season. The women defeated Concordia in the bronze medal game to earn their first ACAC medal since 1994, while the men lost a penalty kick heartbreaker to SAIT.
A fast start to the season is key, with just three playoff spots available in each division. The 2019 ACAC Championships will be hosted by NAIT in Edmonton from Oct. 25-27, with CCAA Nationals taking place Nov. 6-9. The men’s national championship will be hosted by Durham College in Ontario, while the women’s national championship will be hosted by Concordia University of Edmonton.
The ACAC has also announced the host site for the 2020 Futsal championships, as they will be hosted by Lakeland College in Lloydminster from Mar. 12-15.
2019 Key Matchups
Sept.7 – vs University of Alberta Augustana Vikings (Servus Centre Field)
The Kodiaks won’t have to wait long to become acquainted with their new south division rivals, as the Vikings visit Servus Centre Field for the Kodiaks home opener.
Sept. 22 – vs SAIT (Servus Centre Field)
Both Kodiaks men’s and women’s teams have a score to settle with the Trojans in 2019. The women’s team was knocked out by SAIT in the ACAC semifinals last season, while the men’s side lost a dramatic bronze medal match in penalties to a Trojan team that won the south division crown last season.
Oct. 13 – vs Medicine Hat College (Servus Centre Field)
A visit from long-time rival Medicine Hat will conclude the Kodiaks regular season home schedule. The Kodiaks earned a key home win against the Rattlers last season, but Medicine Hat will be a team to watch this season as they enter the year with a new coach.
