Dec. 12, 2019 - As the semester comes to an end, it's time to celebrate a historic month of November for Kodiaks Athletics.
A conference record was broken, the men's basketball team went undefeated, and a national championship was won.
Carter Hansen, Brock Dewsbery and Sophia Nowicki all had huge roles to play in these outstanding acheivements, and have been named the Kodiaks Athletes of the Month for November, sponsored by Italian Table and Moxie's Lethbridge.
Congrats to Carter, Brock and Sophia! Each will receive a gift certificate to Italian Table or Moxie's.
Carter Hansen - Men's Volleyball
Carter (fifth year, General Studies) made history in November, breaking the all-time ACAC kills record on Nov. 22 by recording his 1168th career kill. He is now second in the ACAC with 168 kills at the semester break, and is third in the conference with 3.82 kills per set.
His Kodiaks team will enter the new year in first place in the ACAC south division and will host the ACAC men’s volleyball championships from February 27-29.
Brock Dewsbery - Men's Basketball
Brock (first year, General Studies) has continued to turn heads in his freshman season with the Kodiaks. He averaged 23 PPG in November, and currently sits fourth in PPG in the ACAC.
He has also been dynamite from distance, shooting 51% from beyond the 3-pt line throughout the month. His Kodiaks team now sits ranked second in the country after a historic 10-0 start to the season.
Sophia Nowicki - Women's XC
Nowicki (third year, BN) wrapped up another historic season earlier this month, following up her ACAC championship title with a bronze medal winning performance at CCAA Nationals.
The national bronze was Nowicki’s second CCAA medal in as many years, and she had to battle trecherous snowy conditions in Grande Prairie to earn it.
Nowicki’s performance also helped her team earn an epic national championship victory, as the Kodiaks women’s team took home their first national title since 2004.
