Bio
Greg Gibos was named the head coach of the men’s volleyball program in July of 2016.
Gibos led the team to back-to-back ACAC silver medals (2018-2019, 2019-2020). The team attended the CCAA National Championships in March of 2020, finishing fifth in the country. Gibos has established quite the team culture and is proud of the amount of time, effort, and commitment his athletes have invested in promoting and growing volleyball in Southern Alberta. The Kodiaks hosted the 2019-2020 ACAC Provincial Championships where athletes were welcomed with incredible support, energy, and enthusiasm from the community.
“When we are looking at future Kodiaks we want an individual who is incredibly driven, a great teammate, selfless, and takes pride in representing the Kodiaks logo,” shared Gibos when asked about what he looks for in future recruits. “There are plenty of good athletes, but we also want the highest caliber of people in our program. Great humans make great Kodiaks, and we want our future athletes to check all of those boxes.”
Gibos has been involved coaching volleyball across the province. Gibos coached in Edmonton for several seasons at W.P Wagner High School (2006-2011) and Northern Alberta Volleyball Club U13-15 (2007-2011).
Gibos, originally from Crowsnest Pass, returned to Southern Alberta in 2011 and coached at Chinook High School (2011-2013), Lethbridge Volleyball Club (2011-2019) and Lethbridge Collegiate Institute (2013-2016). Gibos was also involved with Team Alberta Volleyball coaching the U17/U18 team from 2012 to 2014.
Gibos is a certified NCCP Volleyball Level II coach and is currently working towards his Level III certification.
Gibos has a Bachelor's of Education and Physical Education from the University of Alberta. Gibos has also received a Masters of Education, majoring in Positive Psychology and Leadership and Coaching.
Gibos currently works as a career and academic advisor at Lethbridge College.
