The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks soccer teams were the only Kodiaks in competition this past weekend. They split their games, with the women’s team earning a win and the men’s team falling in a hard-fought battle.
Sept. 14 WSOC | Kodiaks 2 at MHC Rattlers 0
The Kodiaks women’s soccer team battled through a tense first half in Medicine Hat, where both sides created chances but neither found the back of the net. Lethbridge generated steady pressure with eight shots, forcing the Medicine Hat goalkeeper to make key saves. Meanwhile, the Rattlers countered with four attempts of their own but couldn’t break past Kodiaks keeper Kiara Jankowiak (third year, General Arts and Science, Lethbridge), who stood solid in net. Physical play defined the opening frame, with fouls on both ends sending the match into halftime deadlocked 0–0.
Lethbridge’s persistence paid off in the second half. In the 58th minute, Jordan Wright (third year, Bachelor of Nursing, Calgary) broke the deadlock with a composed finish, scoring unassisted to give the Kodiaks the edge. The Rattlers pushed for an equalizer with five second-half shots, but Jankowiak remained unshaken, recording three total saves in the match. Lethbridge’s attack continued to test Medicine Hat’s backline, and in the 83rd minute, Sophie DeMarsh (second year, Criminal Justice – Corrections, Calgary) sealed the victory with a sharp unassisted goal, putting the Kodiaks up 2–0. Despite two yellow cards to the hosts and one to Lethbridge, the match ended with the Kodiaks in control, outshooting Medicine Hat 14–9 and taking home a hard-fought road win.

The second half opened with more pressure from Medicine Hat that converted to another goal. The Rattlers quickly converted another goal to push them ahead 4–1. Refusing to fold, Lethbridge kept pressing, and Moroszczuk capitalized with an unassisted strike in the 67th minute to bring the score to 4–2.
