Kirsten Barwegen - Women's Basketball
Barwegen (third year, Justice Studies - Applied Degree) has been stellar in the new year, as her team has entered the stretch drive of a heated ACAC south division playoff race.
The Lethbridge, AB native has recorded double-digit scoring in five of her team’s January contests, averaging 12.8 PPG throughout the month while shooting over 52% from the floor over that span. She’s also been dominant on the glass, averaging over nine boards per game.
Always tenacious on the ball, Barwegen also averaged 2.5 steals per game during the month. Her all around play has helped the Kodiaks stay in the thick of playoff contention as they look to secure a second straight playoff appearance.
Michael Hummel - Men's Volleyball
Hummel (fifth year, General Studies) is in the midst of another solid season, as his Kodiaks have surged to second place in the CCAA national rankings.
The pride of Picture Butte, AB, has been the epitome of consistency for the Kodiaks all season long. He is tenth in the conference in hitting percentage (.295) and averaged over five kills per game in January. He has also been great on the defensive side of the floor, including an impressive eight dig performance against Olds on Jan. 18.
Hummel and his teammates will look to claim another ACAC south division crown in the final weeks of the season, before preparing to host the Murray Chevrolet Cadillac 2020 ACAC Men’s Volleyball Championships from Feb. 27-29 in the Val Matteotti Gymnasium.
