CHAMPIONSHIPS VENUE - VAL MATTEOTTI GYMNASIUM
Home court for the Kodiaks, the Val Matteotti Gymnasium has a capacity of 2,000 spectators and is a major point of pride for Kodiaks Athletics and Lethbridge College. Built in 1988, the gym was named after a pioneering Lethbridge farmer and inspirational philanthropist whose generous financial contribution was pivotal to the gym’s completion. Valerio Matteotti, better known as Val, had an unparalleled commitment to the Lethbridge community and southern Alberta. His handprint remains in the college’s infrastructure – the Val Matteotti Gym being just one of the buildings on campus that directly benefitted from his spirit of giving.
A new court design was unveiled in Fall 2022, incorporating many Indigenous elements including the Kodiaks new Indigenous logo. The design reflects the college’s commitment to recognizing and honouring its place on the traditional lands of the Siksikaitsitapi (Blackfoot) people. Learn more about the design here.
