Weekend Preview: Kodiaks Homecoming Weekend
The Kodiaks are thrilled to host the inaugural Homecoming Weekend
Oct. 20, 2023 – The Lethbridge College Kodiaks are thrilled to host the inaugural Homecoming Weekend, where current students, alumni, community and former student-athletes are invited to cheer on their Kodiaks at home. In addition to watching the Kodiaks in action there will be prizes, contests and giveaways up for grabs for fans.
The weekend kicks off Friday night when the men’s and women’s basketball teams take the home court for the first time this season against the Ambrose University Lions. The women play at 6 p.m. followed by the men at 8 p.m.
Saturday night, fans can cheer on the Kodiaks volleyball teams as they compete in their first home games of the season, also facing the Lions. The women play at 6 p.m. followed by the men at 8 p.m.
Sunday afternoon the soccer teams wrap up their regular seasons when they host the Medicine Hat College Rattlers at 1 p.m. (women) and 3 p.m. (men). The teams will also honor their senior student-athletes at these games.
Falls sports ACAC conference championships kick off next week with soccer in Edmonton and cross-country in Lethbridge.
Soccer
Women’s soccer
Kodiaks (9-0-1) at University of Alberta Vikings (4-0-7)

Kodiaks (9-0-1) vs Medicine Hat College Rattlers (4-1-5)
· Sunday, Oct. 22 | 1 p.m.
The Kodiaks women’s soccer team has a chance to move ahead of SAIT and take the number one spot in the south division going into the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) championships. The team needs to win both games for there to be a shift in the standings.
Rylee Worsey (first year, General Studies - English, Raymond) is coming off a big weekend where she started in her first ACAC game and scored a goal. Raeleen Vanden Dungen (fifth year, Early Childhood Education, Vauxhall) is in the ACAC’s top three for goals, points and shots. She will be looked to help lead the Kodiaks as they work to secure the number one spot in the tough ACAC south division.
Men’s soccer
Kodiaks (4-2-3) vs Medicine Hat College (2-2-4)
· Sunday, Oct. 22 | 3 p.m.
Men’s soccer is looking to clinch a playoff spot this weekend. The Kodiaks will be playing for a draw or win to secure their spot at the ACAC conference championships in Edmonton next week.
Brandon Francis (second year, Exercise Science, Lethbridge) has proven to be an offensive threat for the Kodiaks deep in games. He’s had two critical goals that tied games against Olds College and Ambrose University. Captain Joel McLeod (second year, Business Operations, Medicine Hat) has been a key player for the Kodiaks back line by stopping fast breaks and setting up a run for his team.
Basketball
Kodiaks basketball faces off against the Ambrose University Lions this weekend in a home-and-home series. Kodiaks host the Lions on Friday night at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. before traveling to face them again the next day. Both Kodiaks and Lions teams played last weekend and picked up their first wins of the season.
Women’s basketball

The Kodiak are coming into this game with a win under their belt. Hannah Helton (fifth year, Exercise Science, Okotoks) was named the Kodiaks student-athlete of the week after picking up ACAC player of the game and leading the team with 34 points. Kitawna Sparks (second year, , Taber) is another offensively strong player who uses her size as an advantage to work her way into the paint for points.
Men’s basketball

· Saturday, Oct. 21 | M 8 p.m. at Ambrose University
The men’s team is looking to build from its win going into this weekend’s games. Second-year player Mason Hoffman (second year, General Studies, Yorkton, Sask.) was also named Kodiaks student-athlete of the week after being honoured ACAC player of the game for scoring 21 points, collecting four rebounds and four assists. Filip Karanovic (third year, General Studies Psychology Sociology, Herceg Novic, Montenegro) will be looked to for motivation and to push his team while playing in front of a home crowd.
Volleyball
Kodiaks volleyball teams will also have home-and-home matches to open their seasons. The teams will play Friday at Ambrose University then travel to play in front of their home crowd on Saturday.
Women’s volleyball

The team went out on a high last season competing in the ACAC championships in Red Deer. The team reloaded with a strong recruit class and set new goals for the new season. Returners like Taryn Bach (third year, Open Studies, Lethbridge) and Shane Fowlie (third year, General Studies, Medicine Hat) are itching to get back into that position as the Kodiaks are set to host this year’s ACAC women’s volleyball championships.

The men’s team had a strong preseason travelling to B.C and Lakeland to play in tournaments. Recent recruit Kohlbe Anderson (first year, Business Administration, Claymont, Delaware, USA) is a huge presence at the net. Nolan Moes (fourth year, General Studies, Barrhead, Alta.) will continue his leadership role on this team as he guides the team with the pressures of playing in the ACAC.
