Weekend Recap: Kodiaks experience another positive weekend
The cross-country and soccer teams travelled for away events over the weekend.
Sept. 18, 2023 – The cross-country and soccer teams travelled for away events over the weekend. Both teams had successful showings at their competitions and are proving the Kodiaks name to be a top contender in the Albert Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC).
Cross-country verified its young runners in the team’s first Running Room Grand Prix of the season.
Kodiaks soccer teams continue to be strong early in the season as each team moved to 3-0-0 after taking on the Ambrose Lions.
Next week women’s soccer will host the University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings Saturday before both teams travel down the highway to play Medicine Hat Rattlers.
Sept. 16 XC | Grand Prix #2 hosted by SAIT Polytechnic
The Kodiaks cross-country teams had good results in their first ACAC event of the season. The team travelled up to Calgary to race at West Confederation Park competing against eight additional ACAC teams.
The women’s team secured a third-place finish, improving two spots from last year’s results. Katrina Michel (first year, Practical Nursing, Okotoks, AB) was the first out of the Kodiaks to cross the finish line with a time of 26:21 earning a fourth-place spot. She was followed by fellow first year Kate Block (first year, Exercise Science, Waldheim, Sask.) crossing the line at 28:25.
The men’s team had a close second overall finish behind Red Deer Polytechnic. Owen Stewart (second year, General Studies, Lethbridge, AB) had the highest finish for the men’s team coming in sixth place with a time of 28:38. Ethan Grasmeyer (first year, Natural Resource Compliance, Smithers, B.C.) finished not too long after with a time of 30:25.
The Kodiaks cross-country team is set to host the next Running Room Grand Prix event Saturday, Sept. 30. This will be the first look at the ACAC Cross-Country Running Championships course.
Sept. 17 WSOC | Kodiaks 11 vs Ambrose University Lions 0
In away game matchup the Ambrose Lions displayed remarkable sportsmanship against the Lethbridge College Kodiaks. The Kodiaks came out the game gate strong and didn’t let off the gas, Kodiaks finished the first half up 4-0. The Kodiaks continued their momentum in the second half and were able to finish with a final score of 11-0.

Sept. 17 MSOC | Kodiaks 2 vs Ambrose University Lions 1
In a tightly contested men's soccer match, the Kodiaks faced off against the Ambrose University Lions. Throughout the match it was back and forth play down the field. In the first half Ben Knight (fifth year, General Studies, Manchester, England) capitalized on a penalty kick going up by 1-0 tally for the Kodiaks. Ambrose’s quickly responded tying the game back up at one a piece. Late in the first half the Kodiaks Ryder Skolka (first year, Business General, Nelson, B.C.) scored what was the game winner. As the match continued into the second half tension between the two teams remained high. The Kodiaks were able to hold off the Lions and close out the game with a win.
