Weekend Preview: Endings and new beginnings for Kodiaks in the ACAC
The Kodiaks are out in full force this weekend with all eight teams competing.
The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks are out in full force this weekend with all eight teams competing. Both soccer and cross-country teams are wrapping up their season with Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) championships, while basketball and volleyball squads have their first games of the new season.
Both soccer teams travelled to Grande Prairie, where the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves with be hosting the 2024 ACAC Soccer Championships Friday-Sunday.
On Saturday, the cross-country Kodiak teams are set to compete in the 2024 ACAC Championships in Calgary hosted, by the St. Mary’s University Lightning.
Basketball and volleyball teams compete in a home-and-home series against the Highway 3 rivals, the Medicine Hat College Rattlers, on Friday and Saturday. The Val Matteotti Gymnasium will host basketball action Friday, and then volleyball Saturday.

The Kodiaks women’s soccer team is going into the tournament with a record of 8-4 and are the third-seeded team in the South division. Their quarterfinals match is Friday at 12:30 p.m., where they will face the Keyano College Huskies, who were ranked second in the North division with a record of 8-3-1.
If the Kodiaks win they will advance to the semifinal match against the defending ACAC champion, SAIT Trojans at 10 a.m. the following day.

On Saturday the Kodiaks men’s and women’s team are competing at the 2024 ACAC Cross-Country Championships in Calgary at St. Mary's University (14500 Bannister Rd SE). The women’s six-kilometre race begins at noon followed by the men’s 8k at 1 p.m.
The Kodiaks women’s team has been locked in an intense battle for supremacy this season, trading places with the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens for the top spot. Their performances have been nothing short of thrilling, showcasing resilience and skill as they navigate a competitive landscape. As they gear up for the next phase of the season, the team is determined to find that winning consistency to solidify their position at the top. With aspirations of qualifying for Nationals, the Kodiaks are poised to make their mark.

On Friday evening the Kodiaks basketball teams will open the 2024-25 season in the Val Matteotti Gymnasium. The Kodiaks are encouraging fans to wear white as part of a ‘white out’ game to promote the Make Some Noise for mental health campaign. The first 70 spectators to show up in support of the basketball teams will receive special edition ‘white out’ rally towels.
