The Kodiaks women’s soccer team is aiming to secure the third seed in the South Division this weekend in preparation for the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) playoffs next weekend. To ensure they maintain their lead over the Medicine Hat College Rattlers, the Kodiaks must either win both of their remaining games or achieve one win and one tie.
The team play host to the University of Alberta – Augustana Vikings as their last home match of the season Saturday. They will be honouring the team’s graduating senior student-athletes following the match. The Kodiaks will then travel to Medicine Hat for Sunday’s final regular season game.
The Kodiaks will be depending on Shelby Bach (fifth year, Early Childhood Education, Medicine Hat) to keep the back line strong and limit quality shots going to the net. On the offensive end, Megan Morrison (fourth year, Bachelor of Nursing, Medicine Hat) needs to keep up the pace on scoring as she leads the team with 10 goals.
The Kodiaks are in for a battle this weekend as they fight to secure a strong finish to the season.
Men’s soccer
Kodiaks (5-2-2) at Medicine Hat College (3-3-2)
Sunday, Oct. 20 | 2 p.m.
The Kodiaks men’s soccer team clinched a playoff spot following their victory over the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings last weekend. However, the final seeding will not be determined until the end of this week’s play.
The team is looking for revenge against Medicine Hat College after their last matchup ended in a 4-2 loss. Since then, the Kodiaks have gone unbeaten, gaining momentum as they close out the regular season. Fifth-year standout Wilson Ntignee (fifth year, Business Administration, Bori, Nigeria) remains a top five leader in shots, goals, and points. Goalkeeper Adam Kisko (first year, General Arts and Science, Lethbridge) has been steady throughout the regular season, earning him fourth place in save percentage with an impressive .833. In their last game of the regular season, the Kodiaks are fired up to have a strong finish.
