Weekend Preview: The Kodiaks are on the move this Saturday

The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks cross-country and soccer teams are competing in events that mark the mid-point of their season.
Saturday morning, the Kodiaks — along with the community — will be taking part in the Run for the Pumpkin event at Nicholas Sheran Park. Following that, the Kodiaks will host the third Grand Prix Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) competition for this season.
Kodiaks soccer teams will travel to Calgary for a rematch Saturday afternoon against the SAIT Trojans in Calgary.
Cross-country
Saturday, Sept. 21 at Nicholas Sheran Park| Run for the Pumpkin
2K start time – 10 a.m.
4K start time – 11 a.m.
Race package pickup will take place today at Runners Soul (2646 South Parkside Dr., Lethbridge) from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Out-of-town participants can pick up their package at the start line before the race.
Participants can pick up their pumpkin from the volunteers immediately after they complete the race. Awards, including top three age group finishers in both the two-kilometre and four-km events, as well as the High School Challenge winners, will be announced after completion of the four-km race, at about noon, near the start/finish area.

Women’s 6K start time – 1 p.m.
Men’s 8K start time – 2 p.m.
The Kodiaks cross-country teams are excited to race in front of a home crowd. The teams last competed in the first Grand Prix event hosted by Concordia University of Edmonton. The men’s team placed second and the women’s team placed third. In order to finish as a top-ranked team again they will need good times from Owen Stewart (third year, Business Administration – Accounting, Lethbridge), who finished third overall, and Hannah Pilling (first year, Academic Upgrading, Cardston), who placed fourth overall.

Kodiaks (2-2) at SAIT Polytechnic Trojans (4-0)
Saturday, Sept. 21 | Noon
The Kodiaks women’s soccer team is looking to take revenge this weekend on the SAIT Trojans after a tough 4-1 loss on their home field. This will be a top three matchup in the ACAC as Trojans are the top team in the south division and the Kodiaks sit in third.
SAIT has proven to be an offensively driven team as they are leading the conference in goals for with 21 in four games played. The Kodiaks will need Shelby Bach (fifth year, Early Childhood Education, Medicine Hat) to lead the back line in quality defence.
Men’s soccer
Kodiaks (3-0-1) at SAIT Polytechnic Trojans (2-1-0)
Saturday, Sept. 21 | 2 p.m.
The Kodiaks men’s soccer team look to hold on to top spot in the south division as they play against the SAIT Trojans.
The Kodiaks will need to see a good game from Wilson Ntignee (fifth year, Business Administration, Bori, Nigeria) who is currently ranked second in the conference for overall goals.
