The Kodiaks men’s indoor track team enters this tournament as the team to beat – they’ll be aiming for a third consecutive championship. The Kodiaks have won two out of three previous meets, finishing first in team points in the ACAC. Last year’s All-Conference and ACAC Runner of the Year, Owen Stewart (third year, Business Administration – Accounting, Lethbridge), has taken this year’s competitions in stride and he has yet to lose an event. Hunter Graves (second year, General Arts and Science, Raymond) is also looking for a personal best and to break ACAC records set last year in the 60 and 300 metre wheelchair events.
The Kodiaks women’s indoor track team will be looking to build on last year’s historic silver medal finish. So far this season, they have placed second in two out of three meets. The Kodiaks have added key runners to the mix including Hannah Pilling (first year, Academic Upgrading, Cardston), who is peaking at the right time. In her last meet, Pilling finished first in the 1500 metre event. Paighton Kumson (second year, Criminal Justice – Corrections, Edmonton) is a dual-sport athlete, and she’s been providing the team with quick speed in sprinting events.
Both teams have achieved strong results in the relay categories, taking first place across the board in the last Grand Prix. The Kodiaks will aim to continue their dominance in this area at championships.
