The Kodiaks men’s basketball team kicked off the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) basketball championships at the awards banquet Wednesday night. Cole Lake (fourth year, Business Administration, Eagle, Idaho) was selected to the ACAC South Second Team All-Conference.
The Kodiaks team have travelled east to Briercrest College in Caronport, Sask. to compete for a banner at the ACAC championships this weekend. Championship games and game times will be determined by results and can be found here. The Kodiaks have a tough road ahead as they take on the number one seed in the north, Keyano Huskies, in the first round. They will need to have a well-rounded game with all of their team contributing. The Kodiaks have a solid group of shooters, including Treydon Barton (third year, General Arts and Science, Raymond) and Ryan Degner (fourth year, Open Studies, Lethbridge), who have both been leading the Kodiaks offensively especially from the field and free-throw line. They will also need to capitalize on fast breaks, leveraging their strong rebounders like Cody Tollestrup(second year, General Arts and Science, Magrath), who provide second-chance scoring opportunities.
Indoor Track | ACAC Grand Prix #3 | at University of Lethbridge Indoor Track
The Lethbridge Kodiaks are hosting the third ACAC Grand Prix of the season at the University of Lethbridge’s Indoor Track. A strong ACAC representation will be here to compete in the all-day event.
“Its a great opportunity to host a Indoor Track Grand Prix as our Kodiaks don’t get the chance to compete on home turf very often,” says Todd Caughlin, Athletics & Recreation Services Director. “The Kodiaks are ready to use this event to prepare and qualify for the upcoming ACAC championships being held in Edmonton, March 15-16.”
The relay teams for both the Kodiaks men's and women’s events will look to continue their strong showings. On the men’s side, Ethan Grasmeyer (second year, Natural Resource Compliance, Smithers, B.C.) has come into his own in the long-distance events, recently winning the 3000m at Red Deer. On the women’s side Katrina Michel (second year, Bachelor of Nursing, Okotoks) also had a strong showing at the last Grand Prix, finishing fourth in the 600m event.
