WBB | Kodiaks (6-5) vs SAIT Trojans (10-1)
- Friday, Jan. 17 | 6 p.m. | at SAIT
- Saturday, Jan. 18 | 6 p.m. | Val Matteotti Gymnasium
The Kodiaks women’s basketball team is coming off a hard-fought split against a talented Red Deer Polytechnic Queens squad and will look to carry that momentum into their upcoming game against the number-one ranked team in the South, the SAIT Trojans. With SAIT’s strength in driving to the basket, the Kodiaks will need to focus on playing tough defense down low and limiting their opponents' scoring opportunities in the paint. On the offensive side, Bailey Blackmore (first year, Bachelor of Nursing, Magrath) has been a standout for the Kodiaks this season, leading the team with 112 points. Her fearless approach to the game, particularly from beyond the arc, makes her a key player in any matchup. Also providing leadership is Halle Aleman (first year, Open Studies, Lethbridge), who has been steady all season, contributing 98 points and showcasing her ability to score both inside and from the perimeter.
MBB | Kodiaks (7-4) vs SAIT Trojans (6-5)
- Friday, Jan. 17 | 8 p.m. | at SAIT
- Saturday, Jan. 18 | 8 p.m. | Val Matteotti Gymnasium
The Kodiaks men’s basketball team will face off against the SAIT Trojans, who are just a notch below them in the rankings. SAIT has been a good shooting team this year with pressure from behind the three-point line and are also a good rebounding team. To counter this, the Kodiaks will need to lock down on defense, especially around the perimeter, while also fighting hard for rebounds on both ends of the floor. Treydon Barton (third year, General Arts and Science, Raymond) continues to lead the Kodiaks with 158 points, shooting an impressive 44.7 per cent from the field and 76.6 per cent from the free-throw line. His ability to create plays and drive to the basket will be key in breaking down SAIT’s defense. Ryan Degner (fourth year, Open Studies, Lethbridge) is also another key player who has been motivating and pushing this team on the court. His ability to set up his teammates while also being an offensive threat will make him a key factor in breaking down SAIT's defence.
Volleyball: games can be watched live on TELUS channel 1998 or ACACTV.
WVB | Kodiaks (2-9) vs SAIT Trojans (5-6)
- Friday, Jan. 17 | 6 p.m. | Val Matteotti Gymnasium
- Saturday, Jan. 18 | 6 p.m. | at SAIT
The Kodiaks women’s volleyball team is gearing up for a tough matchup against the SAIT Trojans this weekend. While the Kodiaks defeated SAIT in preseason play, the Trojans are currently ranked higher with a stronger record, making this a critical challenge for the Kodiaks. The Kodiaks will be looking to athlete of the week, Aideena Wickstrom (fifth year, Exercise Science, Coaldale), who has been a dominant force on the court, averaging 2.83 kills per set and boasting a solid .399 hitting percentage. Her offensive power will be crucial in helping the Kodiaks break down SAIT's defense. Alongside her, setter Taryn Bach (fourth year, Open Studies, Lethbridge) has been integral in running the offense, averaging 6.25 assists per set. Her ability to distribute the ball effectively will be vital in keeping SAIT's defense off balance.
MVB | Kodiaks (9-2) vs SAIT Trojans (5-6)
- Friday, Jan. 17 | 8 p.m. | Val Matteotti Gymnasium
- Saturday, Jan. 18 | 8 p.m. | at SAIT
The Kodiaks men's volleyball team is the favourite heading into this weekend’s matchup with the SAIT Trojans. They will need to stay consistent in their ability to control the game and key players will need to step up to ensure a win. Nolan Moes (fifth year, Natural Resource Compliance, Barrhead, Alta.) has been a constant presence on the outside, averaging 3.17 kills per set with a solid .416 hitting percentage. Moes' ability to attack from all areas of the court will be crucial in breaking down SAIT's defensive systems. Setter Ben St. Pierre (fourth year, Open Studies, Red Deer) has been the engine of the offense, recently surpassing 1,000 career assists. His ability to distribute the ball and create scoring opportunities for his teammates will be essential to maintaining offensive rhythm throughout the match.
