Kodiaks women’s soccer signs British Columbia midfielder
The Kodiaks women’s soccer team has added Madeline Marzin, a second-year midfield from Burnaby, B.C
The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks women’s soccer team has added Madeline Marzin, a second-year midfield transfer student-athlete originally from Burnaby, B.C., to its roster for the 2024-25 season.
Marzin started her post-secondary athletic career playing last year for the Providence University College Pilots in Otterburne, Man. The team finished the season with a record of 10-2 and a silver medal at the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) championship.
“It’s going to be good to bring in an experienced CCAA (Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association) player,” says Kodiaks soccer head coach Sean Carey. “She’s going to be part of building the program up again this year.”
Carey adds that he sees the potential for her to develop into a big presence on the field as she “brings a lot of strength and physicality on the field as well, and has played numerous positions. She brings a quick, anticipatory style to the pitch, is great at reading plays and the field, and is a strong communicator, too.”
Marzin says she the Criminal Justice program attracted her to Lethbridge Polytechnic. She plans to complete the two-year diploma program before transferring into the Bachelor of Criminal Justice degree.
Marzin adds that she is eager for the challenge in playing in a new conference, the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC). The MCAC was comprised of just five schools, while the ACAC has 14 teams competing in two divisions in women’s soccer. “I’m also looking forward to learning new ways of playing and how this team works together,” she says, “and to making new friendships with this team.”
