Experienced ACAC veteran joins Kodiaks women soccer team
The Kodiaks women’s soccer teams has signed Kassidy Kelly.
The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks women’s soccer teams has signed Kassidy Kelly, an experienced veteran from Olds College, to its roster for the 2024-25 season.
Kelly comes to the Kodiaks in her fifth year to finish her collegiate career. She played four years with the Broncos women’s soccer program as a centre-back. During that time, she started in all the games she played, served as captain of the team, and as a defender scored three goals with two assists.
Kodiaks soccer head coach Sean Carey says he is excited to add a fifth-year player into the team’s mix, adding that he expects Kelly to bring experience that will help younger players keep developing. He describes her as a smart player who is able to see and read the pitch, and “her calm and level-headed demeaner when she plays makes her a great pick up for the Kodiaks.”
“I expect her to come in and be really pushing for that start in centre-back spot as well,” says Carey. “As we found out in the past, she's got quite a few goals against us from free kicks, which is something in the women’s game that is a good advantage to have.”
Kelly, who will enrol in the General Arts and Science program, says she is looking forward to wearing Kodiaks blue for her last season.
“The Kodiaks have always been a really successful team that I played against,” she says. “It's the only team I haven't beaten in outdoor since I've been playing in the ACAC (Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference).”
She adds that she is “really looking forward to the new experience in general and meeting a full new team of friends that I'll make. I think this is a really good chance to prove myself to everyone.”
The Kodiaks soccer teams will play their first home games at noon and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8.
