Kodiaks women’s basketball adds skilled point guard to roster
Kodiaks women’s basketball team is thrilled to add point guard Nyla Butler to its roster for the 2024-25 season.
The Lethbridge College Kodiaks women’s basketball team is thrilled to add point guard Nyla Butler to its roster for the 2024-25 season. Butler, who will graduate from the Lethbridge Collegiate Institute (LCI), plans to enrol in the General Arts and Science program.
Butler is expected to add the experience and leadership she gained during her high school career to the Kodiaks team – a career that capped off with a third-place finish in the 4A provincial championship. “Nyla's LCI Clippers finished third in the province last year,” says Kodiaks head coach Ken McMurray. “Much of their success came through Nyla's leadership and point guard skills.”
Butler filled out the recruitment form and attended the Kodiaks talent identification campus put on by the women’s basketball program. “There was such a good atmosphere during the I.D. Camp that I just really liked and the coaches are really nice,” says Butler.
During the recruiting process, the Kodiaks coaching staff quickly noticed that Butler is a hard worker, adding that she’s the type of player they can see fitting well within their team culture and goals that they’ve been working towards.
“She has a keen desire to learn and improve,” says McMurray. “With Nyla's work ethic and leadership skills we expect her to fill the important point guard role for the Kodiak team.”
Butler’s decision to come to Lethbridge College and play for the Kodiaks was based on personal experience of watching the home games with her family and friends. “It’s close to home and another year I get with my family,” says Butler.
The Kodiaks women’s basketball team is looking to build off last season’s regular play and hopes to have a deeper playoff run. This year’s tournament will change back to an eight-team championship with the top seeded team in the north hosting.
Kodiaks coaches actively recruit high school athletes around Alberta and neighbouring provinces. If one of the Kodiaks coaches hasn’t spoken to you yet, don’t worry. Simply fill out the recruitment form (gokodiaks.ca/recruitment), and they would be pleased to learn more about you.
