Sparks and Indoor Track Take AOTW Honours
The Lethbridge College Kodiaks had an impressive weekend as a whole.
Jan. 25, 2023 - The Lethbridge College Kodiaks had an impressive weekend as a whole. Both basketball teams won their home-and-home series against St. Mary’s University while the first indoor track Grand Prix event took place in Edmonton. Kitawna Sparks put up impressive numbers for the Kodiaks, while indoor track had a record-breaking meet with the team of Gunnarr Gibb, Jack Bentley, Jonah Hennig, and Orin May setting a 4x200m conference record. With these impressive performances they have been selected as our Canadian Brewhouse Athletes of the Week.
Kitawna was the driving force behind two huge upset Kodiaks wins over first place St. Mary's University this past weekend. Sparks had two consecutive double-doubles, dominating the paint offensively while also pulling down everything on the glass. Her 24 point, ten rebound effort on Friday helped the Kodiaks to a shocking 93-69 blowout of the first place Lightning. She followed that up with a 22 point performance in a dramatic 67-59 comeback win on the road at St. Mary's on Saturday night. Kitawna is now second in conference scoring, averaging 18.4 PPG and is first in FG% with a 61.8% clip.
Gunnarr Gibb (second year, Exercise Science, Cardston), Jack Bentley (second year, Renewable Resource Management, Edmonton), Jonah Hennig (first year, Correctional Studies, Blackfalds Alta.), Orin May (first year, General Studies, Desert Blume, Alta.) had an impressive season debut, setting a new ACAC record at Grand Prix #1 last weekend. They blitzed the field by finishing with a remarkable time of 1:37.84.
Canadian Brewhouse is proud to sponsor the Kodiaks Athletes of the Week. Congrats to Kitawna, Gunnar, Jack, Jonah and Orin on their selections!
