The Lethbridge College Kodiaks indoor track and cross-country team announces the addition of a dynamic and promising recruit, Samson Lee Malaluan, to its talented roster.
Hailing from the community of Neepawa, Man., Malaluan brings with him a wealth of talent and a passion for both academic and athletic pursuits. He will be graduating from Neepawa Area Collegiate and has enrolled in the college’s Business Administration program for the fall.
“I heard a lot of good things about the Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference (ACAC),” says Malaluan. “I wanted to continue my academics and athletics at Lethbridge College because I can see myself learning and improving more here.”
Malaluan draws inspiration from Kodiaks alumni Cole Guilbert and Ethan Lizotte, both products of the Neepawa community, in joining Lethbridge College.
Upon expressing his interest through the Kodiaks recruitment form, Malaluan caught the attention of Kodiaks cross-country and indoor track head coach Simon Schaerz. Impressed by Malaluan's past race results and his positive outlook Schaerz knew he was the right fit for the team.
“He is driven and eager to excel, I'm excited to see how he fits into our cross-country team,” says Schaerz. “Even though he's new to track, I'm looking forward to watching him improve.”
Malaluan specializes in long- and mid-distance ranges of 400, 800 and 1,500 metres in indoor track. He’ll join a Kodiaks track team that repeated as ACAC champions this year. He’ll also look to make his mark on the cross-country team, which finished third overall in the ACAC Championships last fall and qualified for the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association nationals.
Kodiaks coaches actively recruit high school athletes around Alberta and neighbouring provinces. If one of the Kodiaks coaches hasn’t spoken to you yet, don’t worry. Simply fill out the recruitment form (gokodiaks.ca/recruitment), and they would be pleased to learn more about you.
