Kodiaks men’s soccer signs Whitehorse goalkeeper
The Kodiaks men’s soccer team proudly announces the addition of goalkeeper Tristan Martin to its squad for the 2024-25 season.
March 4, 2024 – The Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s soccer team proudly announces the addition of goalkeeper Tristan Martin to its squad for the 2024-25 season.
Martin, who currently attends Paul-Émile Mercier Secondary School in Whitehorse, Yukon, brings a stellar record from his time with Whitehorse United Football Club (FC). Kodiaks head coach Sean Carey says he expects Martin to make important and immediate contributions to the team.
The recruitment process started during the Kodiaks preseason training trip to Whitehorse last summer. In a scrimmage against Martin's team, Whitehorse United FC, the Kodiaks coaching staff was impressed with Martin’s gameplay. Carey reached out to the Yukon goalkeeper, noting that “he's going to come in and push for the starting spot this fall.”
Martin has visited Lethbridge a few times, and on his first visit to the college, he was able connect and buy into the team and culture, which he says helped influence his decision to join the program. He adds that he liked the fact that the school and community is small. “I’m looking forward to getting a good education and starting my journey in post-secondary,” says Martin, who will enrol in the General Arts and Science program for the fall.
Carey adds: “We're really excited to have Tristan a part of this group. He has already fitted in well with the with the boys, and it's going to be exciting to have him on board.”
Martin says he extends his gratitude to Jake Hanson, technical director of the Yukon Soccer Association, whom he says provided the support that helped him reach this milestone.
