The Kodiaks men’s soccer team has signed their last recruit of the 2024 season — Robert McKinstry.
The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks men’s soccer team has signed their last recruit of the 2024 season — Robert McKinstry.
McKinstry is a local student-athlete who attended Lethbridge Collegiate Institute last year. He is taking the Business Administration program at Lethbridge Polytechnic.
He played as a fullback with the Lethbridge Football Club (LFC) making him the seventh LFC recruit in this incoming class.
“I was heavily influenced to join the Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks not just for the fact it was close to home but also other players and previous coaches I’ve played with were, and currently are, a part of the program,” McKinstry
Sean Carey, Kodiaks head coach, has established a strong bond with local club teams. This past year, LFC partnered with the Vancouver White Caps’ and their Caps to College program. Through that association, Carey was able to attend practices to see and recruit players like McKinstry.
“He's feisty for his size,” says Carey. “He's not that big, but he plays big as a defender. We love the way he has been playing. He's got some grit and when he's got the ball at his feet he doesn't shy away from it.”
McKinstry says he’ll bring his work ethic and energy to the team.
The Kodiaks are set to start their season Saturday, Sept. 7 at Ambrose University and the following day will be their home opener at 2 p.m. at Servus Sports Centre field against the SAIT Trojans. The Kodiaks Association will be hosting a free barbecue for the spectators in attendance of the home opener. Attendance to Kodiaks soccer is free.
Kodiaks coaches actively recruit high school athletes around Alberta and neighbouring provinces. If one of the Kodiaks coaches hasn’t spoken to you yet, don’t worry. Simply fill out the recruitment form (gokodiaks.ca/recruitment), and they would be pleased to learn more about you.
