Kodiaks men’s indoor track signs first recruit for new season
Weeks after winning a back-to-back conference championship, the Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s indoor track team has signed Wayne Bauluck.
April 9, 2024 – Weeks after winning a back-to-back conference championship, the Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s indoor track team has signed Wayne Bauluck, a sprinter from Moose Jaw, Sask., as its first recruit for next season.
Bauluck competed for Vanier Collegiate High School where he specialized in the 200-metre, 400-metre and 800-metre events. His performance at the Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association provincial championship last year brought him to the attention of Kodiaks assistant coach Aaron Hernandez.
“Seeing Wayne’s results in both the 200 and 400 races really caught my eye, as those races translate well to both the 300-metre and 600-metre in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC),” Hernandez says. Bauluck finished seventh in the 200m and eighth in the 400m at the 2023 provincial championship.
The Moose Jaw runner continued to impress the coaching staff and student-athletes during a campus visit and training session with the team earlier this year. Hernandez says Bauluck has a good mix of speed and endurance that he was able to showcase in his previous events and workouts with the Kodiaks.
Bauluck is set to start in the Criminal Justice - Policing program in the fall and will be the first collegiate student-athlete of his family. “It’s something new to me and I feel like it’s a great opportunity to explore going into a new chapter of my life,” says Bauluck. “I am hoping to bring a positive and hardworking mindset to the team next season.”
Bauluck will be one of many new recruits the Kodiaks will look to for growth and leadership after many of the team’s student-athletes will be graduating this spring. “I expect Wayne to fit in very well with both the competitive and friendly nature of this team,” says Hernandez. “Coming off our second ACAC championship, this recruiting class will be thrown into a very high level right away, but it’s nothing Wayne can’t handle.”
The indoor track season will start in January 2025.
