MBB | Kodiaks add Baines from Raymond High School

May 2, 2022 – Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s basketball head coach Ryan Heggie has added more southern Alberta talent, securing a commitment from Brady Baines to join his 2022-23 recruiting class.
Baines is a six-foot-three small forward who starred for Raymond High School. Heggie says it’s a signing that will have an immediate impact.
“Brady will immediately help our program on both ends of the court,” says Heggie. “He is definitely a three-level scorer who will impact the game in a variety of ways. A multi-sport athlete from Raymond who has been well coached, plays the right way and plays to win!”
Heggie notes that Baines drew lots of interest from several USports schools but was excited for the opportunity to play in front of friends and family. Baines had his senior season with the Raymond High School Comets cut short due to the pandemic, so Heggie knows he’ll be excited for the opportunity to return to competition.
When choosing a post-secondary program, Baines says it was important to him to join a program that will push him both as a student and as an athlete.
“It means a lot that I will be joining a winning program and be surrounded by people who are trying to get better and work hard,” says Baines. “It’s great to join a team that will pay attention to the little things and do all that we can to be the best students and athletes we can possibly be. I've played a lot of basketball in Lethbridge and surrounding area growing up and I want to represent my home and my family.”
When asked what he hopes to bring to his new team, Baines says he’s a strong competitor that will use his well-rounded skillset wherever it’s needed.
“I feel that I bring a winning attitude and work ethic. I've had a lot of success previously in basketball and I've played in big games. I hate to lose,” says Baines. “I feel that I bring a high basketball IQ on both sides of the floor and toughness in doing the little things other players don't necessarily want to do. I can shoot the ball, I can rebound and make the smart basketball play. Whatever coach needs me to do, you can count on me to do it.”
Baines has enrolled in Lethbridge College’s General Arts and Sciences program and can’t wait for the season to start.
“I am looking forward to just being part of a team again,” says Baines. “Travelling with the team, creating relationships and memories with teammates and coaches. Putting all I can into a goal and having the guy next to me do the same thing is a great feeling. And being able to just play ball. I absolutely love to play basketball.”
The Kodiaks finished in second place in the competitive ACAC south division last season and will tip-off their 2022-23 regular season in October.
