Bio

Matthew Primrose has joined the Kodiaks coaching staff for the 2022-2023 season. Primrose was born and raised in Lethbridge and has helped grow the sport of volleyball within the community for the greater part of the past 14 years. 

Primrose coached with Lethbridge Alberta Volleyball Club (LVC) for 5 years, before coaching 3 years in Saskatoon for Huskies Volleyball Club (HVC). Primrose has also worked Kodiak Volleyball Summer Camps for the past 8 years as well as STARS Volleyball and Pursuit Volley as both a coach and athlete.

In his playing career, Primrose started playing at Gilbert Paterson Middle School and continued at Lethbridge Collegiate Institute High School where he received a Second Team All-Star selection as a Middle Blocker in 2015. Primrose played in the Libero position for 3 seasons for the Kodiaks Men’s program before transferring to the University of Saskatchewan Huskies. During his time in Lethbridge, Primrose captained the Kodiaks for his final 2 seasons and received 2x ACAC All-Conference player selections, a Provincial Tournament All-Star selection in 2018-2019, and was awarded an ACAC Provincial Silver Medal in 2018-2019. At the University of Saskatchewan, Primrose was also named a Captain and finished top 5 in the nation for digs in 2021-2022 while helping his Huskie team beat UBC in a thrilling CANWEST Playoff matchup last year. Matthew was selected for Pursuit Volley’s National Open selection team in 2018 which competed in Dallas, Texas. Finally, the JVC Timberjacks drafted Primrose in 2019 for the ONE Volleyball Canadian Volleyball League where he led the league in digs which helped his team finish in second place for the Calgary Division.   

Primrose has received 4x Academic All-Canadian achievements (2 for Lethbridge and 2 for Saskatchewan) and 1x National Scholar achievement. Matthew graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with an Honours Degree in History (BA.Hon. HIST) and a Canadian Studies Diploma from the Lethbridge College.

Primrose is a NCCP Volleyball Level I coach.
