Bio

Simon Schaerz joined the cross country and indoor track team coaching staff as an assistant coach in 2014. Schaerz became the program’s head coach in 2017 following the retirement of Bertil Johansson.  

In 2019 Schaerz won ACAC Coach of the Year while also leading the women’s cross-country team to a CCAA XC Championship. Schaerz brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his coaching expertise as he has received a Bachelor of Science and Education, a Master’s in Exercise Physiology and a Doctorate in Education.  

Schaerz is a full-time faculty member at Lethbridge College, teaching in the college’s Exercise Science program. 

As an athlete, Schaerz competed for the University of Lethbridge track and field and cross-country team in 2005-2010 while also competing for the U of L swimming team in 2006. Schaerz returned to the track for his final year of edibility in 2012-2013 competing for the University of Calgary. 

Schaerz is a NCCP Athletics Club Coach Level II coach. He also is a certified exercise personal trainer (CSEP-CPT).
