Get to know Kodiaks women’s soccer recruit: Sophie DeMarsh
The Kodiaks women’s soccer team added Sophie DeMarsh to the roster for the 2024 season.
The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks women’s soccer team added Sophie DeMarsh to the roster for the 2024 season.
DeMarsh grew up in Scottsdale, Ariz. where she played winger for the North Scottsdale Soccer Club. She says a highlight of her time playing club soccer was winning the Arizona President’s Cup.
DeMarsh graduated from Chaparral High School in Arizona and attended the University of Lethbridge for one year, where she was a redshirt for the Pronghorns soccer team. She recently enrolled at Lethbridge Polytechnic in the General Arts and Science – Psychology and Sociology program.
The competitive environment of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference is what first drew DeMarsh to the Kodiaks women’s soccer program, and she reached out to head coach Sean Carey for more information.
“Sophie can play a wing or an attacking position,” says Carey. “She's still growing into our team right now.”
DeMarsh, he says, has come out of her shell through preseason training and games, and believes that her work ethic, her first touch and her ability to track down players will be vital to the team this year.
“This season I want to bring my positive energy to the team,” she says. “I’m looking forward to competing with this team.”
The Kodiaks are halfway through their regular season, with games this weekend. They will travel to play the University of Alberta – Augustana Vikings tomorrow, September 28, before returning home to host the Medicine Hat College Rattlers Sunday at noon.
