Kodiaks women’s soccer welcomes back Khloe Jankowiak
The Kodiaks women’s soccer team re-signed Khloe Jankowiak to its roster for the 2024 season.
The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks women’s soccer team re-signed Khloe Jankowiak to its roster for the 2024 season. She is enrolled in the polytechnic’s Business Administration – Accounting program.
Jankowiak last played for the Kodiaks in 2019 when they had a regular season record of 6-4-1 and won bronze at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference championships. She had a standout rookie season that year with 25 shots on net, six goals and one assist.
Head coach Sean Carey says Jankowiak is the type of player the Kodiaks would like to have on their team every year. Carey stayed in touch with her in hopes she would come back to play.
“I like to call her the bull in a china shop in the middle of our midfield,” says Carey. “She just goes everywhere, hits anything that moves, tracks down and just hunts for the ball.”
For Jankowiak, coaching was one of the draws to Lethbridge Polytechnic.
“The coaching staff is exceptional; the experience, care and wisdom throughout is unmatched,” says Jankowiak. “The program treats you not only as an athlete but as family.”
The coaching staff appreciated her range of shots on the field and were excited to see she still has that touch. Over the preseason, she’s been on multiple scoresheets including scoring a goal from just past the centreline.
Jankowiak is excited to play alongside a talented group of girls, including her sister Kiara Jankowiak who recently signed with the Kodiaks.
Having the opportunity to play on the same team was a huge reason that the sisters both signed together. Carey made sure to put that bug in their ear early on.
The Kodiaks first games are away at noon Sept. 7 versus the Ambrose University Lions. The following day, Sept. 8, they play their home opener against the SAIT Trojans kicking off at noon at the Servus Centre Outdoor Field. The Kodiaks men play SAIT at 2 p.m.
Kodiaks coaches actively recruit high school athletes around Alberta and neighbouring provinces. If one of the Kodiaks coaches hasn’t spoken to you yet, don’t worry. Simply fill out the recruitment form (gokodiaks.ca/recruitment), and they would be pleased to learn more about you.
