Kodiaks men’s volleyball signs Manitoba positional athlete

The Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s volleyball is excited to announce the commitment of Brennan Wielenga for the 2024-25 season. He is one of the first recruits out of Manitoba for the Kodiaks volleyball team in several years.
Wielenga graduated from Crocus Plains Regional Secondary School in Brandon, Man. He will attend Lethbridge College’s General Arts and Science program as he works his way towards a bachelor’s degree.
Head coach Greg Gibos is excited to start working with the dynamic six-foot-five middle blocker/opposite. He has an 11-foot-four spike approach and is playing for the Westman 18U team that is known to have great success in the Manitoba Club season.
“One of the main things that drew us to Wielenga was how much work he was putting into his dryland training and personal fitness,” says Gibos. “For someone to be doing this at a young age shows his passion for getting better and pushing himself. He’s not just satisfied with being average and we know this will translate into being a great Kodiak.”
Wielenga has had to face a lot of adversity during his volleyball journey, from being cut from his U16 team to breaking his arm during his U17 season, but he’s found a way to keep striving to better himself.
“My parents have always been so vital to my success, and I know today isn’t possible without them,” says Wielenga. “They have taught me so much and always believed in me and told me that whatever I put my mind to, hard work will get me there.”
The Kodiaks coaching staff is confident Wielenga will be a good fit with the Kodiaks as they focus on attaining an Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) banner. Not only will he fit in physically with the team, but he’s dedicated to the Kodiaks Three Pillars of academic accountability, athletic excellence and student-athlete experience.
Wielenga is excited to move to Alberta in the fall and start calling Lethbridge his second home.
