Kodiaks men’s basketball signs Coalhurst guard Nolen Grindle
Nolen Grindle from Coalhurst commits to the Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s basketball program for the upcoming season.
Nolen Grindle from Coalhurst commits to the Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s basketball program for the upcoming season. He’s a highly talented three level scorer in the guard position.
Grindle played locally for the Pronghorns Next Level and is set to graduate from Coalhurst High School. He will start in the two-year Environmental Assessment and Restoration program at the college in the fall.
Grindle has been a part of southern Alberta’s vibrant and engaged basketball community and grew up watching the Kodiaks and Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference. Being exposed to the post-secondary basketball from a young age, it became his goal to play at this level.
Grindle was recruited through the Kodiaks talent identification camps. He was then invited out to practices with the team and was in constant talks with Kodiaks head coach Ryan Heggie.
Heggie says Grindle impressed him with his strive to become better in the sport. Heggie says because of Grindle’s work ethic, skill set and love of the game that he will be ready when his time comes.
“He has really grasped the concept of showing up; when we have open sessions, he’s there,” says Heggie. “On other nights, he’s either playing with his club team or training to get better.”
Grindle is coming into the program with a defensive mindset that will fit in nicely with the Kodiaks style of play. He is a competitor who is willing to get up and guard the ball.
Grindle's decision to join the Lethbridge College Kodiaks men's basketball program was in response to more than the team’s recruitment efforts. “The Kodiaks welcoming atmosphere and coach Heggie’s winning culture made it an easy choice,” says Grindle. “I am looking forward to developing my skills and improving. As well, I am excited to be a part of the Kodiaks’ culture.”
