July 28, 2021 – The Lethbridge College Kodiaks are back on the prowl, as they are set to return to Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) action this fall. Following a year away from ACAC action due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all Kodiaks teams will return to action in 2021-22. The soccer teams will be the first Kodiaks to get back to play, as they’ll visit Red Deer College on Sept. 17.

The soccer and cross-country teams begin their seasons in September. Basketball and volleyball return to the court in November. Indoor track will begin its season in January, while the futsal season will begin in 2022, with the schedule still to be determined.

“This is the big payoff for our student-athletes,” says Todd Caughlin, manager of Kodiaks Athletics. “They have worked so hard to stay in shape, to keep their competitive edge and to excel in their academics during this past year of no competition and I know they are thrilled to return to action. Our entire college community can’t wait to cheer them on as the Kodiaks roar once again.”

The ACAC return-to-play model includes an emphasis on shorter seasons, geographic matchups and reduced travel to balance competition and the health and safety of student-athletes. Playoff formats will be modified and decisions about competing in Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) national championships will be made at a later date.

Kodiaks schedule highlights include:

• Soccer – The Kodiaks open their six-game regular seasons on Sept. 17 at Red Deer College, followed by their home openers against Olds College on Sept. 19. Playoffs begin Oct. 15.
• Cross country – The season begins with the first of three grand prix meets on Sept. 18 in Medicine Hat. The Kodiaks will race at U of A – Augustana on Oct. 2 and at St. Mary’s on Oct. 18, before the ACAC championship on Oct. 30 in Camrose, hosted by U of A – Augustana.
• Volleyball – The Kodiaks play their season and home openers on Nov. 12 against Red Deer College in the Val Matteotti Gymnasium. The 16-game regular season runs until Feb. 12 as the Kodiaks also close the season at home against Red Deer. The ACAC championships begin Feb. 18.
• Basketball – The Kodiaks begin the season on Nov. 12 at Red Deer College, before hosting Red Deer two days later for their home openers in the Val Matteotti Gymnasium on Nov. 14. The 16-game regular season runs until Feb. 18, with playoffs beginning Feb. 25.
• Indoor track – The Kodiaks will take part in indoor track meets on Jan. 22 in Edmonton and on Feb. 19 in Red Deer, before the ACAC championships in Edmonton in March.
• Futsal – The dates and format of the ACAC futsal season will be determined at a later date.
