The Kodiaks indoor track team finishes the season in Edmonton competing at the 2024 ACAC Indoor Track Championships.
The women’s team is hoping to lock down points in the long-distance events. Runners Kate Block (first year, Exercise Science, Waldheim, Sask.) and Hannah Smith (second year, Exercise Science, Raymond) have placed in the top four in the 3,000-metre events throughout the season.
The men’s relay teams have proven to be a powerhouse throughout the ACAC Grand Prix events. Orin May (first year, General Arts and Science, Medicine Hat) is peaking at the right time of the season as he recently competed in the Alberta Indoor Track and Field Championships where he set a personal best time of 7.18 in the men’s 60 Metre Dash Senior event.
History will be made by Kodiaks para-athlete Hunter Graves (first year, General Arts and Science, Raymond) as he will be racing in the Open Wheelchair 300 m Saturday and Open Wheelchair 60 m Sunday afternoon. This will go down as the first of hopefully many more para-athletes competing at ACAC Indoor Track Championships.
“The ’hay is in the barn‘ meaning that the training is now complete,” says head coach Simon Schaerz. “The group couldn’t be better prepared. I’m hoping for top three for both the men and women. SAIT will be very strong on the men’s side and Red Deer on the women’s side.”
