Kodiaks women’s volleyball signs Lethbridge local Robyn Austin
The Kodiaks women’s volleyball team has added local outside hitter, Robyn Austin, to its roster for the 2024-25 season.
The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks women’s volleyball team has added local outside hitter, Robyn Austin, to its roster for the 2024-25 season.
Austin recently graduated from Chinook High School, and she has enrolled in the polytechnic’s Business Administration – Accounting program for the fall.
These past few seasons, Austin proved to be a physical threat on the court, and her volleyball IQ for offence was eye-catching for the Kodiaks coaching staff. Austin will join fellow Panthers Volleyball Club and Chinook High schoolmate Asha Hurkett in this year’s recruiting class for the Kodiaks.
“Going to school here and playing for the Kodiaks provides me the opportunity to play locally while still being competitive in volleyball,” says Austin. “Coming into this season, I want to bring a positive supportive energy to the team.”
Being a local athlete, the Kodiaks had eyes on Austin for a few years with club and school tournaments. Austin was then invited to open training sessions with the Kodiaks before getting the offer to join the team
“Robyn is a local athlete who we are very excited to keep home,” says Kodiaks head coach Anna Schwark. “She is positive and competitive, and I hope to see her in two or three years still wearing Kodiak blue, making a big impact in the ACAC.”
Austin has a wide range of offensive shots along with vertical reach. She is a well-rounded six rotation player making her a threat in the back court as well with her strong ability to play defence.
“I’m looking forward to experiencing college volleyball and learning a lot from coaches and teammates to become a better player,” she says.
Kodiaks coaches actively recruit high school athletes around Alberta and neighbouring provinces. If one of the Kodiaks coaches hasn’t spoken to you yet, don’t worry. Simply fill out the recruitment form (gokodiaks.ca/recruitment), and they would be pleased to learn more about you.
