The Kodiaks women’s soccer team is excited to announce its first recruit of the 2024-25 season, Hazel Baumbach, a talented central midfielder who played with the Lethbridge Football Club. After graduating from École la Vérendrye, the K-12 francophone school in Lethbridge, this spring, Baumbach will enrol in the General Arts and Science program this fall.
“Hazel is a small, versatile player who can play in a whole bunch of positions,” says head coach Sean Carey. “She's an aggressive player and I think with some quality training, she's going to take this level easily.”
Baumbach started coming out to Kodiaks talent I.D. Camps when she was 15. Through the recruiting process, she was invited out to practice with the Kodiaks and got to know the culture and enjoyed the team environment.
“The Kodiaks women’s soccer program is coming off a great season,” says Baumbach. “I’m excited to see what I can bring to this team.”
The Kodiaks women’s soccer team aims to improve upon its fourth-place finish at last fall’s Alberta Colleges Athletic Association (ACAC) championships. While bidding farewell to a few fifth-year players, the team is excited to be welcoming talented new additions like Baumbach to the roster.
“I think that she's got a very high ceiling for us here at the college,” says Carey.
Kodiaks coaches actively recruit high school athletes around Alberta and neighbouring provinces. If one of the Kodiaks coaches hasn’t spoken to you yet, don’t worry. Simply fill out the recruitment form (gokodiaks.ca/recruitment), and they would be pleased to learn more about you.
