Lethbridge College hosting ACAC Cross-Country championships
The best distance runners in the ACAC will be making their way around Nicholas Sheran Park on Saturday.
Oct. 25, 2023 – The best distance runners in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) will be making their way around Nicholas Sheran Park on Saturday as Lethbridge College hosts the 2023 ACAC Men’s and Women’s Cross-Country Championships presented by Running Room.
Eleven schools across the province will gather in Lethbridge to compete in this year’s championships, where the women run for six kilometres and the men for eight. The women’s race starts at noon and will be followed by the men’s race at 1 p.m., and the community is invited to catch the action and cheer the student-athletes on anywhere along the course.
“We are very excited to host the ACAC cross country championships in Lethbridge. It an outstanding opportunity to showcase a strong collegiate sport to Lethbridge and area,” says Todd Caughlin, Kodiaks Athletics Director.
Nicholas Sheran Park, on the city’s west side, is a large, slightly hilly and picturesque park. Named after one of the city's founders, Nicholas Sheran, the park was designed around the man-made lake. The championship course will be done in loops where the women will have three loops to complete the 6km race and the men will have four loops to complete their 8km race.
The top seven individual finishers for both the men and women’s races and the top three men’s and women’s teams will qualify to race in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association’s National Championship hosted by Dalhousie Agricultural Campus Nov. 10 and 11 in Truro, N.S.
Immediately following the races, the student-athletes will gather at the Sandman Signature for a championship luncheon where awards – including Coach of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and All-Conference Teams – will be announced.
Race information including race results and recaps, will be available on the ACAC website.
